Help Wanted.

I want to replace our coffee table. I want the new one to encompass elements of each table below, but I do not see one table that has it all.

#1 I love the drawers. Very important to hide remotes.

#2 I love the inlay design of the wood. The dimensions of this is too large for our space.

#3 I like the casters but it seems too industrial. I bet I would tire of this look pretty quickly.

#4 It needs a drawer below.

#5 I would go crazy trying to get dust/crumbs out of those cracks.

Brother in law, Bibb, says he's going to build me one for Christmas and this is the "inspiration list" I'm giving him. Anyone know of great salvage wood places around Tallahassee?

I have loved this Picadilly chair from Serena and Lily since its debut. However, I cannot get on board with the price tag.Well, enter the Petite Tufted Chair from Shades of Light (with a better price tag).

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Do you shop at Zgallerie? I love to visit that store when I get the opportunity. I think their products look better in person and from my experience, they have quality, affordable pieces.
I own this oversized mirror. It is one feature that gets a lot of comments in our house. Women seem to like it and ask where it's from. Men always ask "Are you sure that is supposed to lean? I think it should hang." Or, "It must take a lot of Windex to clean that." Comments of that nature.

I haven't seen this pearl mirror in person but my guess is it's a beauty.


If I was designing a swanky hotel, I would find a home for this geometric mirror.


This round Pierre mirror just caught my eye.

If you prefer the rustic, natural mirrors, Restoration Hardware is King of this class.

Coincidentally, I am looking for a round mirror around 30-36". I am leaning towards the more natural/wood frame but if anyone has ideas or resources, please share.

I have to share a secret with you. I like JCPenny. Although the store can often be aesthetically unappealing and chaotic, my always fashioable friend, HDH finds some great accessories there. Despite being recently reintroduced to their shoes and jewelry, I have always liked their home department. They seem to recreate Pottery Barn furniture and they have a great selection of lighting and window treatments. I was in the store last week and I saw these beauties (which look better in person):

Patina Perfection.

This store sells those coveted, time worn patina finishes that cannot be duplicated. Only the genuinely old items reach this perfection.

I will hold out until I find treasures on the side of the road. But it's great to know there's a resource that collects these pieces.

My yellow in this case is not so mellow...

I have wanted to make an upholstered headboard for 2 years now but I have been unable to find a fabric that I was certain about, and I was afraid it would end up looking too homemade.
I stopped by a fabric store this weekend and found a remnant of brown, slubby linen that I loved (3 1/2 yards for the price of 1 yard- who could pass that up?) I did not have a project in mind but it was so cheap I couldn't leave it at the store.
Sunday afternoon I asked brother-in-law, Bibb to help me with this project. I used Centsational Girl's headboard post as my guide. Her project looked store bought and professional which was enough incentive for me to try. However, I added 2" high density foam to my existing headboard and had Bibb screw on 1/2" plywood around the corners of the headboard so the nail head trim could be able to be tacked in.

That was so much fun we decided to go to Home Depot to buy plywood to make a headboard for our guestroom. I was looking at striped fabric this weekend and realized I'd have to sew together two 54" wide pieces of fabric to have enough material to cover a 60" queen headboard. One fabric swatch I took home was yellow and white striped and almost identically matched our 70" wide shower curtain. Problem solved, we used the shower curtain for fabric. (I have been looking for an excuse to make a shower curtain and I have one)


It feels so great to finish a project that I've had earmarked for years. If you have been thinking of making your own headboard and have been hesitating, I encourage you to try it. (Or hire me and Bibb to build you one- wink wink)

A place to Lounge.

We are moving some things around in our house. We're about to toss a nasty futon that has been in our office and I'm looking for a replacement. I love the Hannah Sofa from Oly. It would be perfect in our office.

The taylor sofa would work as well because I am looking for additional sleeping space when we have guests during football season.

There are not only beautiful but functional.

I am really enjoying this day bed look. It's low on the totem pole of projects, but if you happen to see a deal, let me know, okay!

The beauty of casters.

I love the idea of mixing industrial/rustic pieces throughout the home. Because really, who likes a home that looks like you went to the store and said "I'll take it all"? No. Decorating and perfecting your home requires time.

It's so fun to see pictures of our house when we first moved in and to see how each room has evolved over time. Whether you are building or updating your home please be patient. Make due with what you have and wait for those perfect pieces.

Below is a coffee table from Wisteria that I believe is the perfect coffee table. It's not too bulky, looks substantial and it also looks like it's been around for a good bit of time.

It would be wonderful to be able to conceal your remote controls in the drawers.
Now in these next 3 pictures from the home of Bobby McAlpine, I spy 3 different set of casters.

I've been talking to my brother in law, Bibb, about building a table with metal, {because he can weld} aged wood and casters. Yesterday I told him I found my inspiration from the home of the architect/designer Bobby McApline. The world is so small. Bibb said. "oh yea, I know Bobby, my dad built most of his homes in Montgomery. He designed the farm house."
