Hicks "Mini Pendant" Lights.

Most of us design junkies know and love the Hicks Pendants from Visual Comfort. I have used them before in design projects, and if my ceilings were taller I would install them in my home.

Now I present to you what I call the "Hicks Mini Pendants," but Home Decorators calls this the "Cadence Mini Pendant". I have gone ahead and added this to my wish list. 

 I could swap those out with my mini pendants, or most likely use them in an upcoming project for someone else.

Kitchen Lighting Details.

Wall sconces are traditionally used in bookshelves or at the bedside, but I have been pinning these wall sconces in the kitchen for the past year. I am entirely obsessed and I hope to use them in an upcoming project. Take a look...

Wedding Lighting.

My friend Jovanna is getting married this January. The wedding is in south Florida and the reception will take place outside. I promised her I would round up some images and help her with the planning of her wedding. This week I will dedicate Smitten Design to wedding blogging.

First up, outdoor lighting. We share the same opinion that lighting makes more of an impact than flowers. See below.

Any advice on where we can rent chandeliers (I am just assuming the role of self appointed wedding planner this week)? It's hard to locate a vendor. I am thinking of starting a career in wedding supplies, like Duchess Kate Middleton's mum!

Memorable.

Wouldn't a street lined with these be memorable? Before you go and think it's not functional, there can be additional sources as well.

Whimsy.

On my flight back from L.A., I picked up the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles strictly for the chandelier on the cover. I adore the quirky, wiry and whimsical details of it.

Then I saw a similar chandelier on Brooke's blog.

I love how it can fit in both a small and large space. The first space in the Atlanta H &L is a small, narrow room designed by Susan Ferrier and it makes such an impact without being overpowering.

In the second photo the room appears to have ceilings over 15' and the room needs a chandelier to be a show stopper. It's works; it's not heavy and it doesn't take itself seriously. If my ceilings were over 11' I'd add it to my wish list.

Lighting.

I saw the following lights in person and I was so impressed with their quality.

Restoration Hardware: Cast Iron Barn Door Trolley. This light needs the proper context. I envision it in a commercial space, over a work table or in a man cave.

Z Gallerie has sold this tuxedo chandelier for years and it's so gorgeous in person. Awesome for a dining room in a modern, classic or craftsman style home.

Both so black and so beautiful.

Pendants on my Mind.

I've been searching for the perfect pendants. There is no clear cut winner, but these are catching my eye.

Event Lighting.

When I saved this image I did not notice the horses in the background. It was the lanterns and centerpieces that had me smitten.

It's all in the Details

A coworker and friend of mine, Jen, has been debating the last few months on how to decorate her son's room. Jen is an interior designer, and understands the anguish one goes through when embellishing your own home as opposed to giving advice for others home. The inspiration changes from day to day, picture to picture, idea to idea, pattern to pattern and material to material. There are just so many styles to enjoy and designers take delight in the details.
It seems every couple of days Jen fans out her paint deck to show me a new color and paint pattern for Luke's room. (It went from Sock monkey's to Greek key wall paint. From chalkboard paint to striped paint- all of which have been great ideas.)

It has been fun for me to browse through various pictures and instantly attach and email any image that has a hint of nursery to Jen throughout the day. In this process, I stumbled across Phillip Jefferies Ltd Natural Textured Wallcovering. What eye candy this company distributes! Below are a couple of my favorite designs that look playful enough for a toddler and beautiful for a stylish momma.

Now for lighting. This is a charming way to add some funky personality to crystal chandeliers:

Jen thought of a way to DIY is project. Find patterned paper, put adhesive on the back side and then roll the paper around the sleeve of the light fixture. Do you think that would work? Maybe add some Mod Podge to seal it.

I do not have an extra crystal chandelier or sconces lying around to try this project out, but that's why I post it here on the blog-so I can come back to these wonderful ideas for my own home.
