As I read these little nuggets of wisdom I can hear both my mom and grandmother stating examples like these. However, my mom would say "Pretty is as pretty does" {I was a bit of a jerk to her as a teenager, to that she would say through gritted teeth," i hope you have one just like yourself one day"}
or " If you do not have something nice to say, do not say anything at all" that is why I will not comment on a bad hair cut, outfit or bad paint color thank-you-very-much.
And my precious Nanu would say "Frugal is such an ugly word"
Here are some favorites from this blog:
#93 There's always room for one more at the table.
Just like there's boundless room inside your heart. Feeding people can be a reflection of how much you love them. At least for mothers.
#86 Some sentiments shouldn't be taken literally.
These banalities are actually manifestations of a tender hope that I have for you: "The world is your oyster", "When you wish upon a star your dreams come true", "If you believe in yourself anything is possible". It is true you are tiny and unblemished and there is an avalanche of possibility teetering under your munchkin feet. But it's going to take more then wishing on a star. I just want you to know that.
#85 If you're asking yourself if you should have one more drink, the answer is no.
#82 Anytime you are debating whether to shower or not, take the shower.
#66 Throw parties!!
#62 Take walks.
Walking is healthy for your body and your brain. Especially when the weather is just right.
#54 Travel light.
Baby girl, when you are a little bigger but still a young woman, all you need to begin your wordily adventures are some comfortable shoes, a warm jacket, toothpaste, and some books. And learning from my own experience, I guess I would supply you with an emergency credit card. Leave the blow dryer and checked baggage for business trips and traveling after you have a baby. #52 Please, please don't obsess about your weight, your hair, etc. Obsessing is okay but do it about something valuable.
#48 When something tragic happens to someone you care about, make sure not to ignore them just because you don't know what to say.
Just offer your support and listen.
#27 Take care of your teeth.
This is an incredibly boring piece of advice but tooth pain is terrible and unattractive teeth lead people to believe you are uneducated. That's just how it is.
#17 Be Generous.
With your time, your money, your heart. If there was a single lesson I could hope on my best day to impart to you, this would be it.
#13 You have a garden.
If you ever get sad that you don't have a garden of your own, remember that you have hundreds of beautiful gardens all over this city and all over the world. Try to erase the language of "want" from your head. You have everything that you need.
#1 Always send a thank you note.
Just click on over to the blog- it's a fun read. If I had a comment to add it would be this: "If you must leave a party and you don't have a good excuse, spill something on yourself." {i read that somewhere and it still makes me laugh}
