Framing Idea: Grid Option

I had some questions about this map, so I wanted to share my really affordable source with you.  I knew this bathroom needed something to fill the space, but I definitely did not want one large frame. I started looking up historical city maps and stumbled upon World Maps Online

I then took it to Hobby Lobby so they could cut them into grids and I found these floating frames at Michaels. This job was a test in patience and the hanging was even worse, but I think it was worth it.
Have a great weekend. I'll be back next week with more framing ideas.

Snippets from an ongoing project...

My talented friend, Jen Little from Sugar Photography, was visiting town she was able to shoot this space I've been working on for the past 6 months. It's a huge improvement from my iPhone photos which I blogged about here

Traditional + Textured

This summer I was working with clients who wanted a very traditional and textured space. We're still in the finishing stages, but I wanted to share the progress.

DIY Roman Shade

Guys, I made black out roman shades for our bedroom... with a hot glue gun.

 During Reid's nap.

 It was that easy.

I've had this fabric from The Designers Attic just sitting in my closet and I felt it was time to add something over the blank white shade from Home Depot (similar ones found here). In case you are wondering how to, I won't insult your intelligence by adding photos of me hot-glue-gunning the fabric onto the shade, but I will answer questions you might have: No, the glue did not seep through the fabric. I simply glued along the edge, going 4-6 inches at a time: glue, press down fabric, repeat. I also added a little 1" linen band to the edges. These shades are operable, but we like to sleep in a cave-like setting and leave them down, so I doubt they would hold up if you try to open and close them daily.

It's a project worth trying if you are a girl on a budget.

When there's a will...

...there's a place!

I bought this brass knocker and knew I would find the perfect spot for it.

Once I started working on this bathroom, I had some inspiration. I brought it to Tallahassee Welding and asked them to create a toilet paper holder out of the brass.

There you have it, a memorable toilet paper holder.

Some portfolio pics, I know I should wait...

I should wait for my website to launch and other portfolio pics to join this bunch, but I was really excited when Carolyn Allen sent these my way. I hope you enjoy them.

I'll show you the before photos tomorrow.

Art is Up.

I've been working with a family on their new home for several months now. They love art, which is great because I usually default to mirrors, but a home can only have so many mirrored surfaces. We needed to spruce up the entry and this gave us a perfect space to introduce some artwork. I envisioned mounting this canvas by Leigh Viner on top of an existing frame I had. The I had a thin piece of plywood cut down to size at Home Depot, painted it black and hung the canvas on top. I was worried this might look strange, because it is not how art is typically mounted and hung, but we took the risk and I love how it turned out. The black gives the entry the drama this wall needed.
